Since summer is the absolute perfect time to make time for a movie-filled double bill date night kinda night, we thought it made perfect sense to pair two classic titles featuring films from one of favourite real-life romantic couples – Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn! As part of our Kurt n’ Goldie Date Night Double Feature on Thursday, August 10, we’ll be screening both Garry Marshall‘s amnesia-filled screwball comedy OVERBOARD and John Carpenter‘s insanely fun and totally 80s martial arts-filled action fantasy BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA.
Snobbish and wealthy heireress Joanna Stayton (Goldie Hawn) is living a life of leisure with her husband, Grant (Edward Herrmann), when she falls off their yacht and suffers amnesia. Grant takes the opportunity to rid himself of the demanding Joanna — but Dean (Kurt Russell), a widowed carpenter with four kids who once worked for Joanna on her lavish yacht (she fired – and stiffed – him for using the wrong kind of wood to make her shoe closet), arrives and claims she’s his wife, Annie. Even though Joanna can’t remember her real identity, and has trouble believing that she was ever meant to be a working-class mother of four, she moves in with Dean (who’s looking to get even) and becomes mother to his four unruly boys – a role for which she is quite unprepared and totally inept.
BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (John Carpenter, 1986 / 99 mins / PG) An All-American trucker gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in Chinatown.
