Gymkata
The Rio Theatre’s Friday Late Night Movie series continues on August 9 with a truly Olympic-level hit of American cheese – GYMKATA. Real-life American gymnast Kurt Thomas is perfectly cast as an American gymnast who travels to the suspiciously foreign-sounding land of “Parmistan” to compete in a certain deadly game that has not been won by anyone other than a native in more than 900 years. Somewhere along the way the CIA may, or may not, get involved.
“This really happened in Hollywood in the 1980s, which gives you some idea of exactly how much cocaine was flowing through that place back then.” (Flavorwire)
