Whether she’s listlessly guiding driving students through rote exercises or evading requests from neighbours who want her to exorcise household items with her arcane “talents,” Rose (Maeve Higgins) is undeniably in a rut. Even her latest date (Barry Ward) has ulterior motives: his dead wife has returned as a nitpicking poltergeist that he could stand to see banished.
Fortunately (?) for her, an opportunity to truly test her psychic gifts presents itself with stadium rock-worthy pageantry. Christian Winter (Will Forte), a preening one-hit-wonder (“Cosmic Woman” has to be heard to be believed), has not only assumed the mortgage on a castle in her sleepy Irish town, he’s also sealed a pact with the devil in order to re-ignite his flagging career. As occult forces descend and virgin sacrifices are in the offing, Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman raise a little hell in their gently twisted horror-comedy.
“A kind of tea-cosy Ghostbusters… [It toes] a deft line between the everyday, travel-brochure picturesque, and Hammer-style Gothicism.” – Dennis Harvey, Variety
