Known for his singular, stylish visual aesthetic, visionary director Tim Burton was the perfect choice to fete iconic “best worst filmmaker of all time” Ed Wood (PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE), with this masterful ode to movie-making and the horror genre. Johnny Depp stars as the ambitious but troubled cult filmmaker, a man who tries his best to fulfill his dreams, despite a lack of talent.
Because of his eccentric habits and bafflingly strange films, Wood (Depp) is a Hollywood outcast. Nevertheless, with the help of the formerly famous Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau, in an Oscar-winning performance) and a devoted cast and crew of show-business misfits who believe in Ed’s off-kilter vision, the filmmaker is able to bring his oversize dreams to cinematic life. Despite a lack of critical or commercial success, Ed and his friends manage to create an oddly endearing series of extremely low-budget films. With Sarah Jessica Parker, Bill Murray, Patricia Arquette.
“‘Ed Wood’ is a comedy of the ridiculous in which the ridiculous turns unexpectedly sublime.” (Entertainment Weekly)
“Beguiling rather than thrilling, oddly charming instead of transporting, meaning that Disney will have its work cut out for it with what is at heart a cult movie and a film buff’s dream.” (Variety)
“Outrageously disjointed and just as outrageously entertaining, the picture stands as a successful outsider’s tribute to a failed kindred spirit.” (Rolling Stone)

ED WOOD (Tim Burton, 1994 / 127 mins / PG) The mostly true story of the legendary “worst director of all time”, who, with the help of his strange friends, filmed countless B-movies without ever becoming famous or successful.
