“There’s no crying in baseball!”
Join us at the Rio Theatre on Wednesday, August 16 for a baseball doubleheader featuring two summertime classics, A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN and BULL DURHAM. See one, or see ’em both!
Susan Sarandon sizzles as an especially enthusiastic (she has an affair with one minor-league baseball player each season) fan who meets a talented, pitching prodigy (Tim Robbins) and the experienced, charismatic catcher (Kevin Costner) assigned to get him ready for the big leagues.

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (Penny Marshall, 1992 / 128 mins / PG) Small-town sisters Dottie and Kit join an all-female baseball league formed after World War II brings pro baseball to a standstill. When their team hits the road with its drunken coach, the siblings find troubles and triumphs on and off the field.
BULL DURHAM (Ron Shelton, 1988 / 108 mins / PG) In Durham, N.C., the Bulls minor league baseball team has one asset no other can claim: a poetry-loving groupie named Annie Savoy. As the team’s season begins, Annie selects brash new recruit Ebby Calvin Laloosh, whom she christens “Nuke,” to inspire with the religion of baseball. Nuke also receives guidance from veteran player Crash Davis, who settles Nuke’s erratic pitching and teaches him to follow the catcher’s lead.
