Join us at the Rio Theatre as we pay tribute to late actress Raquel Welch on her birthday, September 5, with a screening of her iconic turn in ONE MILLION YEARS BC. While she enjoyed a long career spanning the stage, film and on television it was her memorable appearance in ONE MILLION YEARS BC that established her persona as an “international sex symbol” of the era. As much as she was responsible for molding ideas of glamour and sultriness in the 60s, in the decades that followed her deliberately varied performances in complex and strong roles would ultimately go on to re-define and break them.

This kitschy, action adventure camp classic set in the prehistoric era follows an exile (John Richardson) from a hostile tribe who woos a woman (an eye-poppingly gorgeous Welch, donning one of the sexiest costumes to ever make its way onto a silver screen) from a gentle tribe, amid monsters and an earthquake.

ONE MILLION YEARS BC (Don Chaffey, 1967 / 100 mins / PG) A prehistoric man called Tumak is banished from his tribe before meeting a pretty woman called Loana. She belongs to a gentler coastal tribe, but he must fight caveman Payto to win her favours.
