Vampire Hunter D

VAMPIRE HUNTER D is a prime example of old-school cult-classic 80’s Japanimation, and a title that has been requested by Rio Theatre fans for years. Now… On the big screen! This mythical anime is set in a post-nuclear holocaust dystopia of 12,090 A.D., when the Earth is ruled by the supernatural and vampires, mutants and demons, “slither through a world of darkness” (in the words of the film’s opening introduction).

The film follows the story of a young lady after she is bitten by an evil vampire in medieval Romania, and asks for the help of a mysterious stranger known only as “D” to kill the vampire, thus sparing her a similar fate. Battling gothic creatures along the way, the mystery of who “D” really is soon becomes apparent, to himself and the viewer.

“This is the D that your body craves. This is the D that takes place in a far-flung, post-nuclear hellscape where vampires, werewolves, and all manner of things that go bump in the night reign supreme.” (Nerdist)
