The Beguiled

Innocent, until betrayed.

Director Sofia Coppola became only the second female director ever to win the coveted Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival for her latest atmospheric drama-thriller THE BEGUILED, adapted from Thomas P. Cullinan‘s 1967 novel of the same name. THE BEGUILED stars Colin Farrell as Cpl. John McBurney, an injured Union soldier who finds himself on the run as a deserter during the Civil War who seeks refuge at an all-female Southern boarding school where the teachers and students (including Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning) seem more than willing to help. Soon, sexual tensions lead to dangerous rivalries as the women tend to his wounded leg while offering him comfort and companionship.

THE BEGUILED is Coppola’s bloodiest, most visceral movie to date, and it is also one of her best.” (The Globe and Mail)

“The actors pitch their roles perfectly: Nicole Kidman‘s breathy calm; Colin Farrell‘s charm, just hinting at something dark within it; Elle Fanning‘s way of prettily arranging herself, showing off Alice’s newfound power; Kirsten Dunst‘s quiet melancholy.” (Seattle Times)
