Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria (2018)

Give your soul to the dance.

It’s finally happening! We’re toasting Italian Heritage Month in Vancouver with a double feature our audience has been asking for for months! Join us on Thursday, June 13 for back-to-back screenings of director Dario Argento‘s giallo-infused, “candy-coloured,” phantasmagoric nightmare of a horror classic SUSPIRIA (“the most terrifying movie ever made!”), followed by Luca Guadagnino‘s spectacular 2018 re-imagination starring Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz and Mia Goth.

See one, or see them both for one sweet price!

In one of the most highly anticipated works of arthouse horror in years, Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name) breathed new life into Dario Argento‘s giallo classic with a cast including (goddess) Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia Goth, original ‘Suspiria’ scream queen Jessica Harper, and a hauntingly mesmerizing score from Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke.

“A masterpiece is reborn.” (ScreenCrush)

“Suspiria re-imagines a cult classic as a bone-cracking tale of women, power, and pain… The result is horrifying, maddening, transfixing, transcendent. It’s the most ambitious and unsettling and confounding and cathartic movie I’ve seen this year, with some of the most disturbing images I’ve ever seen in a movie, at once bone-cracking body horror par excellence, meditation on women’s power and history, tale of ancient occultish matricide, and worthy homage to the decades-old movie that inspired it.” (VOX)

“No matter how polarizing the film may be, the horror surrounding these witches, along with the social and political ramifications they and their craft represent in [Luca] Guadagnino’s film, is something worth discussing and dissecting long after the credits have rolled.” (The Hollywood Reporter)

Presented by Rio Theatre and the Italian Contemporary Film Festival, in partnership with the Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver and Fare Cinema 2019, and with the generous support of Il Centro – Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.
