School of Rock

He just landed the gig of his life: 5th grade.

“God of Rock, thank you for this chance to kick ass. We are your humble servants. Please give us the power to blow people’s minds with our high voltage rock. In your name we pray, Amen.”

In director Richard Linklater‘s hilarious SCHOOL OF ROCK, a pitch-perfect Jack Black takes centre stage as an overly enthusiastic guitarist named Dewey Finn, who after getting thrown out of his bar band finds himself in desperate need of work. Posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school, he exposes his students to the hard rock gods he idolizes and emulates — much to the consternation of the uptight principal (Joan Cusack). As he gets his privileged and precocious charges in touch with their inner rock ‘n’ roll animals, he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands. With Sarah Silverman, Mike White, and Miranda Cosgrove.

SCHOOL OF ROCK is more satisfying than a crunching power chord. A raucous crowd-pleaser with a pumping soundtrack, some awe inspiringly talented kids, and perfect comic performances. Charming.” (Empire Magazine)

“Hail! Hail! Jack Black: He’s the clown king of rock & roll.” (Rolling Stone)

SCHOOL OF ROCK (Richard Linklater, 2003 / 108 mins / PG) Fired from his band and hard up for cash, guitarist and vocalist Dewey Finn finagles his way into a job as a fourth-grade substitute teacher at a private school, where he secretly begins teaching his students the finer points of rock ‘n’ roll. The school’s hard-nosed principal is rightly suspicious of Finn’s activities. But Finn’s roommate remains in the dark about what he’s doing.
