Saving Private Ryan

The mission is a man.

Join us on Thursday, November 11Remembrance Day – for a daytime screening of Steven Spielberg‘s epic World War Two film, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

As much as Remembrance Day is centred upon the Armistice achieved on the Western Front on November 11, 1918, when it comes to our audiences’ requests for a film to watch on this day in particular, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN may be at the top of their list. Steven Spielberg‘s brilliant direction takes centre stage here, alongside an engrossing, heartfekt performance from Tom Hanks and a uniformly fantastic ensemble that includes Ed Burns, Tom Sizemore, Vin Diesel, Jeremy Davies, Matt Damon, Barry Pepper and more. Set against the chaotic backdrop of American troops storming the beaches of Normandy, the film follows earnest Ranger Captain John Miller (Hanks – never better), tasked with leading seven men to bravely penetrate German-held territory in an effort to bring one Private Ryan home, at the behest of the US government.

Anchored by another winning performance from Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg’s unflinchingly realistic war film virtually redefines the genre.” (Rotten Tomatoes)

“An old-fashioned war picture to rule them all – gripping, utterly uncynical, with viscerally convincing and audacious battle sequences.” (Guardian UK)

“‘Saving Private Ryan’ is a masterpiece. It cements Steven Spielberg’s reputation as one of the seminal filmmakers of the era.” (Observer)
