We’re including two classics from Brian De Palma – the rock opera PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (one of our most frequently requested titles!) followed by his iconic adaptation of Stephen King‘s CARRIE – and John Carpenter‘s newly remastered, legendary slasher film HALLOWEEN (which will be preceded by a special “featurette” with interviews, clips, and more!). This is going to be one seriously fun Monday Movie Marathon. Think you can handle it?

As always, audience costumes are very welcome – and encouraged!

PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (Brian De Palma, 1974 / 92 mins / PG) Brian De Palma’s cult-classic is a fan-favourite rock opera that finds itself somewhere between Phantom Of The Opera and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe‘s Faust. A disfigured composer sells his soul for the woman he loves so that she will perform his music. However, an evil record tycoon betrays him and steals his music to open his rock palace, “The Paradise.” With William Finley, Paul Williams, Jessica Harper and Gerrit Graham.

CARRIE (Brian De Palma, 1976 / 98 mins / 18A) In this chilling adaptation of Stephen King‘s horror novel, withdrawn and sensitive teen Carrie White (Sissy Spacek, in a career-changing, breakout performance) faces taunting from classmates at school and abuse from her fanatically pious mother (Piper Laurie) at home. When strange occurrences start happening around Carrie, she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by the empathetic Tommy Ross, Carrie tries to let her guard down, but things eventually take a dark and violent turn. Also starring Amy Irving, John Travolta, Betty Buckley, and William Katt.

HALLOWEEN (John Carpenter, 1978 / 91 mins / 18A) Jamie Lee Curtis cemented her life-long iconic status as a “Scream Queen” thanks in no small part to her remarkable feature film debut in John Carpenter‘s original HALLOWEEN, a groundbreaking movie that would go on to spawn countless sequels, several reboots, inspire numerous other filmmakers, and provide untold numbers of nightmares for a generation of movie lovers. On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith’s Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims – including his own sister, Laurie (Curtis). Also starring Donald Pleasance.
