Manifesto

ALL CURRENT ART IS FAKE

From acclaimed visual artist Julian Rosefeldt, MANIFESTO features two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett in 13 distinct, must-see vignettes that incorporate timeless manifestos from 20th century art movements. From anchorwoman to homeless man, from Pop Art to Dogma 95, a chameleon-like Blanchett gives a genuine tour-de-force performance as she transforms herself like never before. Rosefeldt weaves together history’s most impassioned artistic statements in this stunning and contemporary call to action, drawing on the writings of Futurists, Dadaists, Fluxus artists, Suprematists, Situtationists, Dogma 95 and other artist groups, as well as the musings of individual artists, architects, dancers and filmmakers. Together these segments are editing and reassembled, re-imagines as a collage of ‘artists’ manifestos’ that effectively question the role of ‘the artist’ in society today. Performing these ‘new manifestos’ while inhabiting a multitude of different personas – from school teacher to puppeteer – Blanchett imbues new dramatic life into these famous words, in entirely fresh and unexpected contexts.

“Here tackling conceptions of characters rather than actual flesh-and-blood human beings, MANIFESTO frees [Blanchett] to bring as much imagination as she can muster.” (Paste Magazine)

MANIFESTO is an art film in the truest sense: It is conceptual in nature, nontraditional in form, and perfectly esoteric in appeal.” (Variety)

As an installation, MANIFESTO may have seemed a sensory onslaught. As a movie, it’s a very elaborate intellectual exercise, immaculate in every technical detail.” (The New York Times)

“Thought-provoking, visually arresting, and occasionally very self-important… The most surprising thing is how funny MANIFESTO is.” (Roger Ebert.com)
