Idiocracy

In the future, intelligence is extinct.

“I like money.”

Given the current political climate with our neighbours to the South, it’s no wonder that people have been absolutely inundating us with requests for Mike Judge‘s politically prophetic cult classic comedy IDIOCRACY. To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, we’re giving it some much deserved time on our big screen on Tuesday, November 1.

In 2005, average in every way private Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson) is selected to take part in a secret military experiment to put him in hibernation for a year along with a woman named Rita (Maya Rudolph). The slumbering duo is forgotten when the base they are stored on is closed down and are left in stasis until 2505. When they finally wake up, they discover the average intelligence of humans has decreased so much that Joe is now the smartest man in the world.

Forgotten, he awakes five centuries in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed down that he’s easily the most intelligent person alive. To test its top-secret Human Hibernation Project, the Pentagon picks the most average Americans it can find – an Army private and a prostitute – and sends them to the year 2505 after a series of freak events. But when they arrive, they find a civilization so dumbed-down that they’re the smartest people around.
