Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

He puts the mean in green.

“Inside a snowflake like the one on your sleeve, there happened a story you must see to believe.”

Ron Howard‘s live-action adaptation of the beloved children’s tale by Dr. Seuss stars a perfectly cast Jim Carrey as literature’s most reclusive (not to mention vengeful) green Grinch, who decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery (not to mention bizarrely coiffed) citizens of the magical land of Whoville. This strange town is home to the Whos, an almost mutated sort of Munchkin-like people who all love Christmas.  Reluctantly joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos, who he is not fond of at all. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen), who tries befriending him. Also starring Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, and Molly Shannon.
