Daniel Radcliffe continues exploring the depths of the unexpectedly weird and wonderful in writer-director Jason Lei Howden‘s (DEATHGASM) latest, GUNS AKIMBO. This high-energy, super stylish genre trip is getting the big screen treatment at the Rio Theatre – for one night only! – as part of our Friday Late Night Movie series on February 21.

Miles (Radcliffe) is stuck in a dead-end job, still in love with his ex-girlfriend Nova. Unbeknownst to him, a gang called Skizm is running a deadly competition within his city in which complete strangers fight to the death for the entertainment of an online audience of millions. Miles soon finds himself caught up in the game and forced to fight in a battle to the death. Initially, Miles’ lifetime of running from his problems pays off as he manages to elude his first opponent but when Nova is kidnapped, he must finally stop running and overcome his fears to fight for the girl he loves. With Samara Weaving, Ned Dennehy.

“I loved the frenetic, intense energy Guns Akimbo overflows with.” (Birth. Movies. Death.)

“A spectacularly fun and exciting time whenever the needle drops and Weaving owns her badass, gun-wielding image.” (RogerEbert.com)

“All in all, ‘Guns Akimbo’ is a delightfully absurdist, high-octane, drug-fueled video game come to life.” (Film Inquiry)

GUNS AKIMBO (Jason Lei Howden, 2020 / 95 mins / 18A)  Miles’ nerdy existence as a video game developer takes a dramatic turn when he inadvertently gets caught up as the next contestant with SKIZM, an underground gang live-streaming real-life death matches. While Miles excels at running away from everything, that won’t help him outlast Nix, a killer at the top of her game.
