Freddy vs. Jason

Evil will battle evil.

Winner Kills All

What better way to spend your Friday, January 13th than at the Rio Theatre with a Friday Late Night Movie that features not one, but two of cinema’s biggest slasher icons battling it out for total nightmare domination?

Released in 2003, FREDDY vs. JASON blew up the horror universe by crossing over two monumental movie franchises, FRIDAY THE 13th and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, pitting respective villains Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) against each other; it is also the last film in both franchises before they were both eventually rebooted.

The plot is as can be expected, following a group of teenagers (including Jason Ritter and Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland) who find themselves stuck in the middle of a battle between two familiar forces of evil: ruthless stalker Jason Voorhees and chatty dream master Freddy Krueger, as the battle wages from Elm Street to a climactic finale fought at Camp Crystal Lake.

FREDDY VS. JASON (Ronny Yu, 2003 / 97 mins / 18A) It’s a Nightmare on Friday the 13th. Freddy Krueger, of the Nightmare on Elm Street films, and Jason Voorhees, of the Friday the 13th movies, meet face-to-mask in the ultimate horror movie standoff.

In an attempt to free himself from a state of forgotten limbo, evil dream-demon Freddy Krueger devises a plan to manipulate un-dead mass murderer Jason Voorhees into slicing-and-dicing his way through the teenage population of Springwood. But when the master of dreams loses control of his monster, a brutal fight to the death is the only way out.
