Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Nominated for three Oscars!

In director Marielle Heller‘s CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?, Melissa McCarthy (in a Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated performance) stars as Lee Israel, the best-selling celebrity biographer (and cat lover) who made her living in the 1970’s and 80’s profiling the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estée Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. When Lee found herself unable to get published because she had fallen out of step with the marketplace, she turned her art form to literary deception in the form of forged letters from noted figures – abetted by her loyal friend Jack (Richard E. Grant, also nominated for both Golden Globe and Oscar gold). CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? is also currently nominated for a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar (Nicole Holofcener, Jeff Whitty). With Jane Curtin, Ben Falcone.

What is on paper a small-time heist film in the vein of the Coen Brothers or Breaking Bad is ultimately a cover for a more observant and relatable portrait of loneliness.” (Vulture)

McCarthy and Grant make for a delicious pair of miscreants in CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?, a memoir brimming with sharp wit and social observations.” (Screen Rant)

“It’s not a rebirth for McCarthy, but it’s an awakening, and a reminder of what she can do when she dives into a project worthy of her talents.” (Detroit News)
