Buffy the Vampire Slayer

She knows a sucker when she sees one.

“All I want to do is graduate from high school, go to Europe, marry Christian Slater, and die.”

As devoted lovers (and dedicated curators) of pop culture at the Rio Theatre, we were all terribly saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Luke Perry – an actor who will always remain firmly in our inner-90’s, teenaged hearts. He was, hands down, one of the biggest, if not the California coolest, heartthrobs of the era (though he was, of course, so much more). Join us on Friday, April 19 as we raise a glass (or wooden stake) to toast his fantastic, iconic legacy with a long, long overdue screening of one of the most requested classic titles we receive – Joss Whedon‘s 1992 touchstone, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Also starring Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, David Arquette, Hillary Swank.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (Fran Rubel Kuzui, 1992 / 14A / 86 mins) Blonde, bouncy Buffy is your typical high school cheerleader: her goal is to “marry Christian Slater and die,” and nothing gets in her way when it’s time to shop! But all that changes when a strange man informs her she’s been chosen by fate to kill vampires. With the help of a romantic rebel, Buffy is soon spending school nights protecting L.A. from Lothos the Vampire King, his sidekick, Lefty, and their determined gang of bloodsuckers. It’s everything you’d expect from a teen queen in the Valley.
