A Bigger Splash

A Bigger Splash is a sensuous, sun-soaked portrait of desire, jealousy and rock and roll that reunites I Am Love director Luca Guadagnino with the other-worldly Tilda Swinton. Loosely inspired by the French psycho-sexual drama La Piscine (1969), Swinton stars as rock legend Marianne Lane, who is recuperating on the volcanic island of Pantelleria with her filmmaker partner Paul (Matthias Schoenaerts). When iconoclast record producer and old flame Harry (Ralph Fiennes) unexpectedly arrives with his teenage daughter Penelope (Dakota Johnson) and interrupts their holiday, he brings with him an A-bomb blast of nostalgia that leads to a whirlwind of passion and edge-of-your-seat danger for everyone involved.

Everything in this movie is so ripe and voluptuous that watching it doesn’t seem enough, you want to take a bite out of it.Rolling Stone

Luca Guadagnino excels at creating lifestyle pornography of an especially rarefied kind, although in classic European style, he gilds the pleasure with some political guilt. – The New York Times

Absorbing, visually arresting, and powerfully acted by an immensely talented cast, A Bigger Splash offers sumptuously soapy delights for fans of psychological adult drama. – Rotten Tomatoes
