For the past four decades, POWDER BLUES has been Canada’s leading blues band with it’s hard driving mix of swing, blues, r&b and shades of rock ’n roll. Formed in 1978 in Vancouver, the band quickly became staple diet at Rohan’s in Kitsilano and The Spinning Wheel in Gastown.

The following year, POWDER BLUES released their debut album on Blue Wave Records. Such was the demand for this album locally it was reissued by RCA in 1980 and with airplay all across Canada “Uncut” went platinum selling over 200,000 copies. POWDER BLUES received a Juno for best new band, and in 1983 they were headlining at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, which was later to be released on disc.

The awards were coming thick and fast with a WC Handy Award in Memphis, Tennessee in 1986, and in 1990, they toured the Soviet Union. For the past several years POWDER BLUES has kept blazing new trails into the USA and across Canada.

We at CoOp Radio (CFRO-FM 100.5) are very happy to celebrate the radio stations 45th Anniversary with POWDER BLUES, a band that the station broadcasted “live” on the radio many times on our Friday night broad-casts “Live On Arrival” coming direct from Rohans and The Spinning Wheel.
