The Canadian Pacific Blues Society along with One Stop Rock Shop are very proud to present Sonny Landreth, that eye-poppin’ Louisiana slide guitarist. Previously we had announced that Landreth would have a new album but that’s been pushed back to the fall.

Born in Canton, Mississippi Landreth’s family relocated to Lafayette, Louisiana where he was raised on the surrounding vibes of Creole & Cajun culture. His earliest inspirations came from Scotty Moore (Elvis) and later The Ventures, Chet Atkins and Robert Johnson. His first serious professional engagement was with zydeco pioneer Clifton Chenier & The Red Hot Louisiana Band. Years later Sonny and his band would record and tour with John Hiatt as The Goners. For the past 24 years Landreth has been a guest on Eric Clapton‘s “Crossroads Festival”. Sonny’s unorthodox guitar playing, defined by the manner in which he simultaneously plays slide coupled with fingering movements on the fret board really sets him apart from all the others. At times his fingerpicking is an absolute and mesmerising joy to behold.

Today, Sonny Landreth lives in nearby Breaux Bridge (home of the Crawfish Festival in May) near Bayou Teche. With Dave Ranson on bass and Brian Brrignac on drums the trio will be blowing out the boundaries of contemporary cajun-rock. Visit www.sonnylandreth.com

Opening up the show at 7:30 pm will be Robert Connely Farr an ex-patriate of Bolton, Mississippi which incidentally is the home of blues legends Charley Patton and The Mississippi Sheiks. For more on Robert www.robertconnelyfarr.com
