The grande finale of a year-long live storytelling competition. Ten of Vancouver’s best writers and performers tell original stories and compete for the title of 2018 Story Slam Champion.

Founded in 2004, Vancouver Story Slam is the longest-running live storytelling event of its kind in Canada – and the second-longest-running in the world! Throughout the year, over 100 people sign up to share their original writing live onstage. Audience members vote for their favourite stories; top storytellers are invited to participate in this, the annual championship. Over $2,000 in cash prizes are awarded annually.

The story slam is an ongoing competition throughout the year; thus, the championship lineup will be announced closer to the event.

What people are saying:

“Great, original entertainment. You will laugh, cry, get angry and then laugh again. And you are part of the show by voting for the best storytellers of the evening. Very well run and fun!”
-Kathrin Lake

“This story slam…is not just an event. This is something that creates one of the most welcoming, nurturing, and mind opening communities I have encountered in Vancouver/Canada and also one that I felt like I would like to be a part of.”
-Senay Cebioglu

“Fantastic, raucous event…enthusiastic hosts. Ideal if you want to see what a slam is about, but are confused by poetry. Most of the stories will make you laugh, but there’s tremendous diversity in tone, subject matter and experience levels. Welcoming to fresh talent and seasoned performers. Stories are short so the pace never lags, and it’ll leave you feeling entertained, cultured, and part of a community in ways binge watching Netflix just can’t compete with.”
-Jovian Francey

“I’m so happy to have been introduced to the Vancouver Story Slam; it has been such an amazing place to work on and perform stories….It’s a very safe and open space and it allows for someone to explore some scarier or more vulnerable stories….I felt truly vulnerable and loved and warm from the crowd. It was a surreal experience; I have been performing in theatre and film for years but never had an experience quite like that.”
-Cory Thibert

The stories presented in this show are not prescreened or censored, and may include adult language or references to controversial or sensitive topics. Listener discretion is advised.
