Featuring many of the remarkable performances that have come to be associated with the event itself- from Joan Baez to the Who, Joe Cocker to Jimi Hendrix – the film also chronicles the site’s storied preparation through to its cleanup, with historic access to insiders and organizers as well as portraits of the concertgoers themselves. Woodstock was the defining moment of the “Summer of Love,” and the concert film succeeds by capturing both the mood of the era and the many aspects that came together in one legendary weekend. So much more than a concert film, WOODSTOCK is a time capsule that allows for an compelling look at the era itself; drug use by performers, naked fans sliding in the mud, the collapse of the fences by the unexpected hordes and the surreal arrival of National Guard helicopters with food and medical assistance for the impromptu city of 500,000.

WOODSTOCK (Michael Wadleigh, 1970 / 184 mins / R) | A chronicle of the legendary music and arts festival that took place in Woodstock, NY, in the summer of 1969.
