When Harry Met Sally (35th Anniversary Screening)

Can two friends sleep together and still love each other in the morning?

“I’ll have what she’s having.”

In the pantheon of romantic comedies, is there any more universally beloved (not to mention hilarious, sweet, infinitely quotable, sincere, and completely relatable) than director Rob Reiner‘s landmark classic WHEN HARRY MET SALLY…?

The characters of Harry and Sally were heavily influenced by the real-life dating and relationship experiences of both Reiner and the late, great writer Nora Ephron (who received an Oscar nod for this screenplay). The onscreen chemistry between Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan is one for the ages in career-defining performances as a couple whose friendship morphs over the course of two decades before arriving at the inevitable romantic hurdle that forms the crux of the film: “Can two people sleep together and still be friends?” Rounding out the cast are Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fisher as Harry and Sally’s respective best friends.

“Ephron’s tart, grown-up script examines the inevitably of love finding a way despite the fight put up by this famous pair of snappy New Yorkers.” (Empire Magazine)

“What knocks it out of the park is the combination of Ephron’s insights and Reiner’s matchless comic chops.” (Total Film)
