“Remember, remember, the fifth of November…”
In 2006, Alan Moore‘s cult-classic and politically-minded, subversive graphic novel ‘V for Vendetta’ hit the big screen with an electrifying script courtesy of THE MATRIX‘s Lana and Lilly Wachowski and a memorable turn from a freshly-shorn Natalie Portman. It goes without saying that director James McTeigue’s highly-stylized, dystopian sci-fi thriller is best viewed on our big screen on November 5 – aka Guy Fawkes Day – and mustachio’d masks are, of course, very welcome!
Freedom! Forever! From the Wachowskis and Joel Silver, the masterminds behind THE MATRIX trilogy, comes another intriguing, action-packed fantasy-thriller. The premise: Great Britain has become a fascist police state in the aftermath of a world war. Now, a shadowy freedom fighter known only as “V” (Hugo Weaving) begins a violent guerrilla campaign to destroy those who have embraced totalitarianism. In his quest to liberate England from its oppressive ideological chains, “V” recruits a young woman (Portman) he’s rescued from the secret police to join him on an epic adventure to execute a seemingly impossible task.
Based on the DC Comics/Vertigo graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd. With John Hurt, Stephen Fry, Stephen Rea, and Rupert Graves.
**Please note: This re-release features an exclusive conversation between Director James McTeague and Writer/Producer Lana Wachowski as they discuss the making of the film. (Will play immediately following end credits.)
“Just when we were ready to give up mainstream movies as brain-dead,along comes the controversial and gleefully subversive V FOR VENDETTA, a piece of corporate-sponsored art that will have audiences rooting for a bomb-throwing anarchist.” (New York Post)
“Whether you’re mindless or Mensa, you’ll find stuff here to challenge and trouble you, the way a good piece of speculative fiction should.” (TIME Magazine)
