The Zone of Interest (Final Screening)

Filmmaker Jonathan Glazer (SEXY BEAST, BIRTH) crafted one of 2023’s most impactful films with his stylistically jarring, innovative take on Martin Amis‘ 2014 novel, THE ZONE OF INTEREST. The story is itself a fictionalized dramatization, loosely inspired by the real-life SS-commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss.

Set in German-occupied Poland in the summer 1943, the career-motivated military man and his wife devoted, indefatigable wife Hedwig strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden that resides directly beside the work and death camp he manages. With Sandra Hüller, Christian Friedel.

Masterful and chilling, THE ZONE OF INTEREST has been lauded by audiences and film critics for brilliantly juxtaposing its bleak, banal and intentionally stark aesthetic against its sinister, caustic subject matter. The resulting film is at times abstract in its affect, and lasting in its haunting impact. The film was nominated for five Oscars (including Best Picture and Best Actress for Hüller), and won the Best International Feature Film and Best Sound awards.

“I left it shaken and stricken; it stayed with me, stubbornly, over the months that followed.” (Observer UK)
