The Terminator (40th Anniversary Screening)

Your future is in its hands.

Join us at the Rio Theatre for 40th Anniversary screenings of one of our all-time favourite 80’s classics, James Cameron‘s original 1984 dystopian masterpiece THE TERMINATOR. It’s been beautifully restored and remastered, so catch it on the silver screen (big and loud!), where it belongs.

“Knowing that many people have never seen the film or missed out on seeing it on the silver screen, I couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate THE TERMINATOR’s 40th anniversary with its return to cinemas on Art House Theater Day,” said producer Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead,”
Armageddon). “People may wonder if THE TERMINATOR is truly an indie film. As the film’s producer, I can assure you it is. Jim Cameron and I made the film for $6.4 million, which included a completion bond and a 10% contingency. We had a variety of co-financiers, pre-sold rights and our distribution was through Orion Pictures rather than a major studio – the very definition of an indie film, both then and now. We hope you’ll enjoy the nostalgic experience of seeing it this summer!”

Disguised as a human, a seemingly indestructible cyborg assassin known as a Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), who divulges the coming of Skynet, an artificial intelligence system that will spark a nuclear holocaust. Sarah is targeted because Skynet knows that her unborn son will lead the fight against them. With the virtually unstoppable Terminator in hot pursuit, she and Kyle attempt to escape.

“As chillingly efficient in exacting thrills from its audience as its titular character is in executing its targets.”
