Dearest Rio Friends & Movie-Lovers: As per the government’s latest directive on November 23, 2020, we will be suspending operations until December 8, 2020 (barring any further changes). Screenings will be re-scheduled, and ticket-holders will be contacted shortly. In the meantime, we thank-you for your endless generosity and boundless support. Don’t worry – we’ll be firing up the projector as soon as we can! In the meantime, keep calm, stay kind, wear a mask, wash your hands, and stay safe out there. – The Rio Theatre
David Bowie (Johnny Flynn) went to America for the first time to promote his third album, “The Man Who Sold the World.” There, he embarked on a coast-to-coast publicity tour with his publicist from Mercury Records, Ron Oberman (Marc Maron), who has lined up press interviews and figured out how to sneak in some third-rate gigs. During this tour, Bowie came up with the idea of his iconic Ziggy Stardust character, inspired by artists like Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. With Jena Malone.
