The Rio Theatre’s Friday Late Night Movie series continues on March 15 with British filmmaker Guy Ritchie‘s super stylish, wildly kinetic 2001 crime caper SNATCH.
Illegal boxing promoter Turkish convinces gangster Brick Top to offer bets on bare-knuckle boxer Mickey at his bookie business. When Mickey does not throw his first fight as agreed, an infuriated Brick Top demands another match. Meanwhile, gangster Frankie Four Fingers comes to place a bet for a friend with Brick Top’s bookies, as multiple criminals converge on a stolen diamond that Frankie has come to London to sell. With Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Dennis Farina, Alan Ford, and Benicio del Toro,
“Guy Ritchie’s follow-up to ‘Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels’ is an even more craftily concocted underworld entertainment, helped no end by the casting of Pitt as the bare-knuckle boxer Mickey.” (Time Out)
“Full of snappy dialogue, dark comedy, and interesting characters.” (Rotten Tomatoes)
“Bouncing around in a world of bare-knuckle boxing, gypsy swindlers, pretend Jewish diamond merchants, indestructible Russian assassins and a thug who disposes of bodies by feeding them to hungry pigs, Snatch has enough plots for a fair-sized cemetery.” (Globe and Mail)
