What’s a little murder among friends?
Join us at the Rio Theatre for a double bill celebrating the work of one of Britatin’s most acclaimed filmmakers, Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (STEVE JOBS, SLUMDOG MILLIONNAIRE, 127 HOURS), with two of his best; SHALLOW GRAVE and TRAINSPOTTING.
Set in Edinburgh, Boyle’s first feature film is a darkly comic, tense thriller about three self-involved roommates who tangle and unwind over death and finances in SHALLOW GRAVE, which won over indie-loving audiences when it was released in 1994. The “Hitchcokcian” cult-favourite marked the beginning of two important collaborations in Boyle’s career; it’s written by John Hodge (who would go on to write the screenplays for both TRAINSPOTTING and THE BEACH) and features Scottish actor Ewen McGregor (TRAINSPOTTING, A LIFE LESS ORDINARY). Also starring Christopher Eccleston (28 DAYS LATER) and Kerry Fox.

SHALLOW GRAVE (Danny Boyle, 1994 / 92 mins / 18A) | When accountant David, doctor Juliet, and journalist Alex are searching for a fourth roommate for their trendy flat, they settle on the aloof Hugo, who unexpectedly dies, leaving behind a large sum of cash. The trio decide to keep the money, and bury the body. Soon enough, a tense game of wits ensues as they each start plotting against the others to keep the money – by any means necessary.
