Ms. 45
Abel Ferrara’s (BAD LIEUTENANT, KING OF NEW YORK) 1981 revenge thriller classic MS. 45 was remastered in HD from the original negatives in 2014, and she is (finally) blowing up the Rio’s screen as part of our Friday Late Night Movie series on March 10.
The film follows a mute garment-district seamstress – played by the late model/ actress/ musician/ screenwriter Zoë Lund – who, after falling victim to multiple unspeakable assaults, ignites her one-woman homicidal rampage against New York City’s entire male population. She wanders the New York streets at night in a sexy black dress with her attacker’s gun strapped to her garter belt, blowing away any man who tries to pick her up.
“With Grand Guignol relish, Ferrara depicts a city in the throes of a Wild West lawlessness that invites vigilante action.” (The New Yorker)
“The sexual politics of Ms. 45 are blunt and easy to read, and the picture is riotously cathartic.” (The Village Voice)
