Come hang out with us for a FREE #CanFilmDay screening of  Oscar-winning Quebecois filmmaker Denys Arcand’s JESUS OF MONTREAL. This follow-up to Arcand’s hit sex-comedy drama THE DECLINE OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE treads familiar waters, as both are sharp social commentaries anchored in contemporary portrayal of a certain class of intellectual, arts-oriented, and mostly urbane Montrealers. JESUS OF MONTREAL enjoyed a similarly warm critical and audience reception, and won numerous accolades including the Genie Award for Best Picture, the Jury Prize at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival, and an Oscar nod for Best Foreign Language Film.

National Canadian Film Day (#CanFilmDay) is a massive, coast-to-coast-to-coast salute to Canadian cinema. From April 16-18, theatres across the country will be opening their doors, dimming the lights, and firing up their projectors for totally free – yes, FREE – screenings of Canadian films. Stand up for Canadian filmmakers and the industry by sitting down – and watching a great Canadian film!

JESUS OF MONTREAL “Jésus de Montréal” (Denys Arcand, 1989 / 120 mins / 18A / In French w/EST) A group of actors put on an unorthodox, but acclaimed Passion Play which incites the opposition of the Catholic Church while the actors’ lives themselves begin to mirror the Passion itself.
