Come hang out with us for a FREE #CanFilmDay screening of INCENDIES, the devastating political thriller that launched filmmaker Denis Villeneuve (DUNE: Part One & Two, BLADE RUNNER 2049, ARRIVAL) to the highest level of international acclaim, earning him an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature in 2010.
Nawal (Lubna Azabal), a dying Middle Eastern woman living in Montreal, leaves separate letters to her twin children to be read once she passes away. Jeanne (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin) is to deliver hers to the father the twins never knew, and Simon (Maxim Gaudette) is to give his to the brother they never knew they had. The siblings travel to the Middle East separately, where they each experience acts of brutality, uncover a startling family history, and have revelations about themselves.
National Canadian Film Day (#CanFilmDay) is a massive, coast-to-coast-to-coast salute to Canadian cinema. On Wednesday, April 16, theatres across the country will be opening their doors, dimming the lights, and firing up their projectors for totally free – yes, FREE – screenings of Canadian films. Stand up for Canadian filmmakers and the industry by sitting down – and watching a great Canadian film!
National Canadian Film Day is presented by Reel Canada. Uniting our nation through film!
“Denis Villeneuve’s tormented family drama strips off one layer of meaning after another on its way to a thoroughly jolting terminus.” (Independent UK)
“A mystery, a melodrama, a prison film, and a love story, “Incendies” is foremost a scream of rage at a society destroyed by religion and by men.” (Boston Globe)
“A staggering political drama that could put you in mind of the intimate sweep of Bernardo Bertolucci, Incendies feels like a mighty movie in our midst.” (Time Out)
