Italian writer and television personality Pierfrancesco Diliberto (better known to his fans as Pif, whose previous effort includes THE MAFIA ONLY KILLS IN SUMMER) directs and stars in AT WAR FOR LOVE, a dramatic comedy set at the end of the Second World War. Pif plays Arturo, a waiter who wants to marry his true love, the beautiful Flora (Miriam Leone), but can’t – because her father, in New York, betrothed her to a Sicilian mafioso. The only way to prevent the marriage requires Arturo to enlist in the army and return back to Sicily, where he left, to seek his fortune in America. Pif has crafted a film that, on its surface, is a tender love story set against the backdrop of the allied conquer of Sicily during WWII; look deeper and the clever narrative quietly examines how relations between Allies and the Mafia would shape the fate of Sicily in years to come. AT WAR FOR LOVE is a fictional romantic comedy inspired by true events – think FORREST GUMP (which is referenced in the film), but in a totally different historical context.
