Join us at the Rio Theatre for the World Premiere of HEARD, a Vancouver-made TELUS Originals film that chronicles five Hard of Hearing people searching for community in the space between Hearing and Deaf. This ALL AGES film is followed by a live Q&A with the cast.
HEARD is a documentary film about the collective experience of the space between hearing and Deafness. Hearing is a fundamental component to the way society is structured. We’ve built infrastructure, activities, culture and communication based on the ability to hear. And on the other end of our spectrum, society has seen Deaf individuals develop a sophisticated language and culture built around Deafness. That leaves a gap between two distinct cultures where many Hard of Hearing (HoH) people lie. HEARD follows Hard of Hearing filmmaker Brian Ceci as he grapples with accepting his own condition by connecting with other people on the HoH spectrum to create a small support community.
HEARD is proud to include all Hard of Hearing and Deaf individuals and is presented using Auracast. The film is open captioned and will include a Q&A featuring the cast. The Q&A will include open captions and ASL interpreters.
