In a kitschy, pastel-tinged suburb, the American dream is running a dangerously high fever.
After Jill (Jocelyn DeBoer) willingly hands her newborn over to an envious Lisa (Dawn Luebbe), the absurdity only amplifies as the pursuit of happiness runs this pair and their loved ones ragged. As another child inexplicably transforms into a dog, wives aren’t so much swapped as mistaken for one another, a pregnancy is faked, and jealousy continues to fester, Jill and Lisa staunchly refuse to let their smiles slip, the braces on their teeth gleaming like mirror balls and evincing their mutual desire to instill order on chaos. It would seem that these two friends might just kill each other with kindness… if a rampaging serial killer doesn’t get to them first.
Alternately as comforting as a cardigan and as abrasive as a hairshirt, this deranged comedy from Upright Citizens Brigade alums DeBoer and Luebbe sugars the Percocet as it reveals itself to be a genuinely bizarre and bizarrely genuine confection.
“Franz Kafka meets Serial Mom meets Edward Scissorhands… A hot, flaky slice of suburban surrealism with a side of weird…” – Leslie Felperin, Hollywood Reporter
