“Hopelessly devoted to you…”
As movie and music-lovers here at the Rio Theatre, we were so saddened to learn of the recent passing of singer and actress Olivia Newton-John. An Australian icon who was beloved around the world for her sparkling yet totally unconscious persona, magnetic charm, and distinct vocal talents garnered her legions of “hopelessly devoted” fans around the world over the course of a career that ultimately spanned decades.
It goes without saying that her portrayal of Sandra Dee in the 1978 movie musical GREASE catapulted her to a new level of fame thanks to a pitch-perfect performance as Rydell High’s newest Pink Lady. As such, we are raising a glass and tipping our collective cinematic hat to the late actress in the best way we know how – with a sing-a-long screening of one of our all-time our favourite summer events.
There’s no better way to experience GREASE – which has been rockin’ and rollin’ and what-not for over 40 years – than at the Rio Theatre, surrounded by lovers of the film who are as excited to see it as you are, and on the biggest screen in town!
This is the one that you want… Complete with lyrics on the screen, the bouncing ball, prop bags, a crazy-fun costume contest and so much more!
All ages are very welcome, costumes are highly encouraged, and audience participation is absolutely essential. Hosted by our friends Dandy and Kristen Cook!
