Kevin Smith’s Sunday Cinema Side Hustle: Chasing Amy

It's not who you love. It's how.

Kevin Smith’s Sunday Cinema Side Hustle: Chasing Amy

“So, I’ve spent every day since then chasing Amy… so to speak.”

This Fall, come and kick it at the Rio Theatre for Kevin Smith’s Sunday Cinema Side Hustle, a retrospective series featuring some of the maverick filmmaker’s most beloved works – hosted by the man himself! We’re beyond excited to welcome our “forever friend” (who so generously donated his time and energy to our #SavetheRio campaign in 2018) back to our stage alongside screenings of fan faves including CLERKS, MALLRATS, CHASING AMY, and JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKES BACK. Kevin is a naturally gifted storyteller and engaging orator who manages to fill every show with his trademark insight, stories, hilarious anecdotes, and a smart perspective on both the “the biz” and “this thing we call life.” If you’ve never had occasion to spend some time with him, then consider clearing your calendar and getting a pass – we can’t wait!

CHASING AMY centers in on a New Jersey comic book writer, Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck). He is roommates with his best friend and professional partner, artist Banky Edwards. Their hit comic book series, “Bluntman and Chronic,” is loosely patterned after a pair of acquaintances, Jay and Silent Bob. Alyssa Jones, a lesbian and fellow comic book creator, comes into Holden’s life and quickly becomes a close friend, although Holden is powerfully attracted to her. Eventually, Alyssa realizes that she is attracted to Holden as well and they begin a physical relationship, much to the consternation of Banky, whose ire over losing his best friend to a lesbian seems to border on romantic jealousy. After he learns something about Alyssa’s sexual past, however, Holden’s immature response to his new knowledge destroys both his romance with Alyssa and his friendship with Banky. The third film in Smith’s “New Jersey Trilogy,” following on from CLERKS and MALLRATS. With Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Ethan Suplee, Jason Lee, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes.
