Camp (Director Q&A)

Haunted by a traumatic past, Emily finds solace as a camp counselor while navigating grief, witchcraft and the power of female friendship.

Emily is the root cause of two devastating tragedies very early in her life. She feels the weight of these accidents like a curse has been placed upon her. Her dad suggests she go to a Camp for troubled youth to ease her guilt; she can be a counsellor there. When Emily arrives, she is taken in by the other counselors, they accept her as she is and wrap her in a veil of peace & forgiveness. Emily stands at the forefront of a new kind of life, but there’s a voice out there in the woods she can’t quite seem to ignore. The voice is whispering, she’s telling Emily to go home.

“In writer-director Avalon Fast’s sophomore feature CAMP, letting go, self-forgiveness and rebirth come with the help of community, magic and sacrifice.” (Movieweb)

“Dabbling with witchcraft is a time-honored tradition for troubled teen girls, especially in horror movies. Writer-director Avalon Fast adds their own dreamy spin on the subgenre with her sophomore feature, CAMP, an achingly melancholy coming-of-age film that will strike a nerve for anyone who was once a girl lost in the dense and tangled forest of adolescence.” (Horror Press)

Director Avalon Fast will be live at the Rio to intro the film and for a post-screening Q&A!
