Bound

For money. For murder. For each other.

The Rio Theatre’s Friday Late Night Movie series continues on February 16 with the Wachowski’s brilliant sophomore feature, the wildly sexy and stylish sapphic neo-noir crime thriller BOUND. Released in 1996, this notoriously titillating “rob the mob” slow burn made waves by pushing modern cinematic boundaries; its subversive narrative coupled with two knockout performances from stars Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon firmly cemented its “cult-classic” status among movie-loving audiences.

Sparks fly when gorgeous Violet sets her eyes upon the mysterious Corky in an elevator. Violet is the girlfriend of a violent gangster, Caesar, while Corky is fresh out of prison and doing renovations on the apartment next door. As the two women launch into a passionate love affair, they assemble an intricate plan for Violet to escape from Caesar, with two million dollars of the mob’s money — but the important part is to make it out alive. With Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon, Joe Pantoliano, Christopher Meloni.

“‘Bound’ gets its rocks off through the intimacy of its central romance: that crackling, sublime chemistry between Tilly and Gershon that begins to simmer the moment they lock eyes in an elevator and quickly froths over…” (Chicago Reader)

“A perfect movie.” (Horror Queers Podcast)
