Originally released in ’08, the now cult doc followed the Canadian heavy metal icons ANVIL who would inspire the likes of Anthrax and Metallica, and then drop off the map to begin what would become decades of toiling in obscurity.
Director and former roadie Sacha Gervasi followed guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner as they stumbled through a harrowing European tour and reflected on failure, friendship, resilience and the will to follow even the most impossible of dreams.
The documentary features appearances by Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash, Motorhead’s Lemmy, Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Slayer’s Tom Araya.
The re-release celebrates the documentary’s 13-year anniversary, and includes an epilogue interview with Gervasi and Anvil’s Kudlow and Reiner, moderated by former MTV host Matt Pinfield.
“Now THIS is Spinal Tap.” (Washington Post)
