28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

Fear is the new faith.

Expanding upon the world created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in 28 YEARS LATER — but turning that world on its head — Nia DaCosta directs 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE. In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) makes a discovery that could change the world as they know it — and Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) becomes a nightmare he can’t escape. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the only threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.

“What makes your own skin crawl isn’t just the hideousness of the violence but the unblinking matter-of-factness with which DaCosta films it. She serves it straight up, without gusto — and does not leave you hungry for more.” (The New Yorker)

“[Ralph] Fiennes’ outrageous pageantry sharpens “The Bone Temple” into a tragedy as opposed to just another bloodbath.” (Salon.com)

“[Nia] DaCosta’s film is a macabre morality tale about the best and worst of human nature. It is utterly brutal, and one of the most compelling so far.” (Observer UK)

“This may be another zombie movie about the inhumanity of man, but it’s also deeply, triumphantly humane.” (The Atlantic)

“It might seem silly to invoke ‘The Lord of the Rings’ as a point of comparison, but Garland and Boyle — and now DaCosta — are working in a similarly mythic, epic register.” (The Ringer)
