10 Things I Hate About You (25th Anniversary Screening!)

How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways.

“Romeo, oh Romeo… Get out of my face!”

Who knew that William Shakespeare’s playful comedy “The Taming of the Shrew” would adapt itself so perfectly into 90’s teen comedy gold in 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU? The modern re-telling set in a suburban Seattle (like, so 90s!) high school has emerged as a cult-classic in the 25 years since its release, thanks in no small part to memorably sweet and funny standout performances from some future A-listers, including Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Julia Stiles.

Kat Stratford (Stiles) is beautiful, smart and quite abrasive to most of her fellow teens, meaning that she doesn’t attract many boys. Unfortunately for her younger sister, Bianca, house rules say that she can’t date until Kat has a boyfriend, so strings are pulled to set the dour damsel up for a romance. Soon Kat crosses paths with handsome new arrival Patrick Verona (Ledger). Kat may let her guard down enough to fall for the effortlessly charming Patrick. With Larisa Oleynik, Larry Miller, David Krumholtz.

“’10 Things I Hate About You’ has become a cult classic in the past 25 years because it nailed the universal truth about stereotypes: there’s always more to them than what’s seen on the surface.” (The Screen)

“With an energy level that can only be described as infectious, it takes almost every dated teen-flick cliche (sensitive rebels, preening jocks, distracted adults, etc.) and makes them fresh and funny.” (Film Frenzy)
