VIMFF 2024 | Best of VIMFF Part 1

The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) returns to the Rio Theatre from February 26 – March 3.

Celebrating some of the best films from the VIMFF 2024 and Fall Series 2023. We’ll present awards for Best Mountain Culture and Best Adventure film, and screen highly rated films by the expert jury. A night that you do not want to miss!

6 Films: Metaperra; On Fire in Ice; Slides on the Mountain; Moyo; Cycles; With the Tide

CYCLES *Jury Special Mention* (13 mins | Austria | 2023): Through an artistic and action-packed freeride film, Cycles portrays the four phases of the menstrual cycle.

MATAPERRA *World Premiere* (21 mins | Canada | 2024 | French, Spanish| SUBTITLES: English): A climber aspires to become the first Cuban to conquer three legendary ascents.

MOYO *Jury Special Mention* (14 mins | Tanzania | 2023 | Swahili | SUBTITLES: English): A raw and poetic portrait of the children that call the Jipe Moyo and Musoma home in Tanzania.

ON FIRE IN ICE *World Premiere* (6 mins | Canada | 2023): A man suffering from chronic pain finds solace in frigid waters.

SLIDES ON THE MOUNTAIN *Best Mountain Culture Film* (30 mins | Canada | 2023): Talon and Riki, two brothers from the Lil’wat Nation, decide to ski Ts’zil and set off to learn the skills they need to ride the mountain safely.

WITH THE TIDE *Best Adventure Film* (25 mins | United States | 2023): A story documenting the exploration of how surfing can increase health, wellness and value for nature in a community.

This year’s festival is sharing over 70 curated mountain and adventure stories with the VIMFF community February 23 – March 3. The festival features special guest speakers, filmmaker intros, and expert-led workshops on photography, storytelling, and mountain safety skills.

*All seating is General Admission. Please arrive early to ensure time for great seats, and to purchase treats at concession.
