Vancouver Fringe Festival: Ask for Details

BABYCHAM Productions Presents

GARY JONES: ASK FOR DETAILS
by Gary Jones

Directed by Shawn Macdonald

VANCOUVER, BC… Gary Jones, a Jessie Award-winning playwright and veteran comedian hits the Rio stage with GARY JONES: ASK FOR DETAILS. At an early age, Gary discovered the link between getting laughs and not getting beaten up. But that decision came with a cost as Gary recounts some of his more humiliating experiences on the path to the performer he is today. “I was quite lost and wandered many low roads on the way to reaching higher ground,” says Jones. Beloved by legions of sci-fi fans around the world, Jones spent 10 years recurring as ‘Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman’ on the smash TV show ‘Stargate: SG-1,’ and he’s ecstatic to be flying solo on stage without the help of an Air Force flight suit. You’ll laugh, you’ll squirm, you’ll want to beat him up but then you’ll laugh some more and forget that you wanted to beat him up.

Jones is beyond thrilled to be directed by long-time friend, collaborator and fellow improviser, Shawn Macdonald, in bringing GARY JONES: ASK FOR DETAILS to the 2016 Fringe. Cementing their performing relationship as ‘Kirk’ and ‘Bones’ in the long-running Vancouver Theatresports smash hit, ‘Star Trik: The Musical,’ Jones and Macdonald went on to co-write Christine Lippa’s Pick of the Fringe’s ‘The Vacant Bachelor.’

They followed that up with a 1994 ‘Best Play’ Jessie Award for co-writing and performing in ‘World’s Greatest Guy,’ a Fringe one-act that became an Arts Club Theatre two-act. They also co-wrote Macdonald’s one-man/multi-character tour de force, ‘Fear Knot,’ an Arts Club Jessie-nominated production. Along with Canadian theatre legend, Morris Panych, Jones and Macdonald co-created and performed in the Vancouver Playhouse world premier of ‘A History of Things to Come.’ Jones admits that the one thing that often gets in the way of his and Macdonald’s incredible working relationship is the fact that “Shawn tends to drink IPA and I find it way to yeasty.”

GARY JONES: ASK FOR DETAILS takes place at the Rio Theatre, 1660 East Broadway.

Part of the brilliant ‘7 shows by 7 artists,’ this “Bring Your Own Venue” collaboration includes Beverley Elliott’s ‘Sink or Swim’, TJ Dawe’s ‘Burn Job,’ Charlie Ross’ ‘One Man Dark Knight,’ Jan Derbyshire’s ‘Certified,’ Richard Lett’s ‘Sober But Never Clean’ and Monster Theatre’s ‘Til Death: the Six Wives of Henry the VIII.’
