The Rules of Attraction

We all run on instinct

Based on the novel by acclaimed author Bret Easton Ellis (“Less Than Zero”) “Rules” centers around “American Psycho” protagonist Patrick Bateman’s younger brother Sean, and his college friends’ bizarre mating rituals at a posh liberal college that mix sex, drugs, music and mayhem in a kaleidoscopic story about three students entangled in a curiously surreal romantic triangle.

Featuring a memorably sinister performance by the late James Van Der Beek (in a role light years away from the iconic character of TV’s Dawson Leery), the film was adapted by and directed by Roger Avary, who was Quentin Tarantino‘s co-writer on RESERVOIR DOGS and PULP FICTION. With Ian Somerhalder, Shannyn Sossamon, Jessica Biel, Kate Bosworth, Jay Baruchel, Faye Dunaway, and Swoosie Kurtz.

“This is an exercise that is in love with its own superficiality, delighted with an emptiness that was all it ever aspired to, and yet it manages to turn into a better movie than it has any right to be.” (The Times UK)
