My Bloody Valentine (Director George Mihalka in Attendance!)

There's more than one way to lose your heart...

Join us at the Rio Theatre for a bloody fantastic slice of cinematic Canadiana, courtesy of director George Mihalka‘s 1981 classic slasher, MY BLOODY VALENTINE. Even better? Filmmaker George Mihalka will be appearing in-person to intro the film, and participate in a Q&A after the film.

On Valentine’s Day, someone always loses their heart. Twenty years ago, one small town lost more than that. When supervisors abandoned their posts to attend the town’s annual holiday dance, a tragedy claimed the lives of five miners. The sole survivor, Harry Warden, was institutionalized, but returned for a vengeful massacre on the disaster’s first anniversary.

Nineteen years later, the town is gearing up for another Valentine’s Day party. Teen sweethearts T.J. and Sarah, along with their friend Axel, are among the excited partygoers. But when a box of candy containing an eerie warning and blood-soaked heart arrive, the townsfolk realize that romance is as good as dead. And so are they … With Paul Kelman, Laurie Hallier, Neil Affleck.

“”… My Bloody Valentine’ stands up with ‘Black Christmas’ as the best Canada has to offer in the oft-slighted slasher horror sub-genre.” (Canuxploitation.com)

“Here are three things this film gets right: the characters, the location, and the kills.” (Dread Central)

“While I have a great amount of love for the slasher sub-genre as a whole, there’s a real charm to My Bloody Valentine (1981) that makes it a standout amongst its cinematic peers.” (Daily Dead)

“A genuinely creepy genre entry that successfully evokes the atmosphere of timeless folklore…” (Cinema Crazed)
