Two-Time, World champion and fourth-generation magician, Shawn Farquhar, has been surrounded by cards for as long as he can remember, but it was after a trip to France that he wondered why the court cards look the way they do. Of particular interest was the King of Hearts, also known as the “Suicide King” because he appears to be stabbing himself in the head.

Shawn believes there is a much more sinister story, that an actual medieval French king was assassinated at the hand of his own wife. Now Shawn is out to see if his theory’s true – will the greatest illusion of all prove to be that an ancient cold-case murder has been hiding under our noses all this time?

Re-ignite your wonder and curiosity at The Rio Theatre this summer as we welcome the charismatic storyteller, award winning, world renowned, local Metro Vancouver Magician, Shawn Farquhar to our stage and screen. His new documentary, LOST IN THE SHUFFLE, explores the unique relationship between the art of magic and the possible origin story of your everyday pack of playing cards.

For The Rio Theatre’s first trick, we will summon the Master Magician, Shawn Farquhar to the stage prior to the film to tease, trick, and set the scene. But don’t vanish from your seats once the film ends, as Director, Jon Ornoy will appear for a brief Q & A!

About Shawn Farquhar

Shawn Farquhar has been entertaining audiences around the globe for over three decades on stage and through television shows like The X-Files and Highlander and motion pictures like The Fly II. Shawn’s creativity and mastery has been acknowledged with virtually every award that the field has to offer. FISM (The International Federation of Magic Societies), the world’s largest magic organization, has awarded him both Stage Magician and Sleight of Hand Magician of the Year, making him the only magician in history to win both world championships. In 2009, at the Olympics of Magic in Beijing, China Shawn was awarded the highest award in magic, the Grand Prix World Championship.
