Join us at the Rio Theatre on Batman Day (September 19) for a screening of one of the most iconic superhero movies of all time, Tim Burton‘s original BATMAN. Released in 1989, Burton’s BATMAN was the perfect vehicle for his signature, trademark aesthetic. The result is a deliciously dark, gothic, and claustrophobic visualization of Gotham City, one that has laid the definitive blueprint for the look of the franchise as a whole, if not all of “superhero cinema.”

Having witnessed his parents’ brutal murder as a child, millionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton, in a career-defining role) fights crime in Gotham City disguised as Batman, a costumed hero who strikes fear into the hearts of villains. But when a deformed madman who calls himself The Joker (Jack Nicholson, never better) seizes control of Gotham’s criminal underworld, Batman must face his most ruthless nemesis ever while protecting both his identity and his love interest, reporter Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger). And we can’t leave out Prince’s electric soundtrack, can we? With Billy Dee Williams, Robert Wuhl, Jack Palance, Jerry Hall.
